1 gram Digital Headstage for neural recording of animal behaviour
The CerePlex™ µ from Blackrock Microsystems, is a very small and lightweight (1 gram) digital headstage that provides a platform for simple stimulation and tracking in freely moving rodents.
It provides an interface between the Cerebus™ or CerePlex™ Direct recording systems and 16 or 32 microelectrodes for high-fidelity transmission and recording of extracellular spikes and local field potentials from the brain. In addition to neural recording, it features an onboard 3 axis magnetometer, accelerometer and gyrometer as new tools for monitoring animal behavior.
CerePlex™ µ features include it’s small size, light weight, built-in colour or IR LED for tracking, 3D accelerometer, gyroscope and magnometer data lines and in-vivo impedance measurements.
At just 1 gram, CerePlex µ is so light the animal won’t even know it’s there. The Cereplex µ lets you detect behaviors and subtle movements beyond the traditional video-based approach or EMG recordings. The built-in 6-axis motion sensor (3D accelerometer/gyroscope) will enable the detection of a variety of subtle movements and behaviors, with high temporal precision, such as:
- Freezing and anxiety
- Movement initiation/termination within operant tasks
- Circadian rhythms
- Disease states (turning, shaking, etc.)
